Port of Huelva

HUELVA PORT
Located in the South Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula, the Port of Huelva is nowadays an agile, modern and efficient port, equipped with the most advanced services and installations that allow it to admit the biggest tourist boats.

HISTORY

During the mining and metallurgic trimillennial tradition of the region, the Port of Huelva was the perfect destination for many boats coming from all countries around the world. It is also from this historical place, nowadays integrated in the port, that the three Caravels led by Cristobal Colón, made possible the discovery of the New World.

The last third of 19th century witnesses the increasing importance of the mining exploitation of the region. Nevertheless, it is not until the 60s that the Port of Huelva reaches its current phisiognomy when the Exterior Port moves its most important terminals and equipment. The Declaration of Huelva as the centre for promotion and industrial development and the concession of the statute of autonomy transformed it in the main industrial port in the South of the Iberian Peninsula.
